Navy Federal More Rewards American Express Overview
For starters, the Navy Federal More Rewards American Express® Card is designed for individuals that spend the most on common everyday expenses, such as groceries, dining out, and filling up the tank. Earning 3x points on these popular spend categories is a surefire way to accrue lots of points in a hurry.
If you are a Navy Federal Credit Union member and have average to excellent credit (which is required to qualify for this card), you'll get a ton of value out of this no-annual-fee everyday card due to its generous earning rates and no foreign transaction, cash advance, or balance transfer fees.
The Navy Federal More Rewards American Express® Card has a 15.90% - 18.00% Variable APR, which is lower than the national average APR for similar credit cards.
If you're a Navy Federal Credit Union member and are seeking a card with a traditional welcome offer in the form of points or cash back, other comparable options include the Navy Federal Credit Union Visa Signature® Flagship Travel Rewards Credit Card and the Navy Federal Credit Union cashRewards Credit Card. Both cards offer strong rewards earning and good benefits.
How to earn rewards from the Navy Federal More Rewards card
The Navy Federal More Rewards American Express® Card features an impressive rewards structure — akin to notable cards such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, Citi Strata Premier℠ Card , and American Express® Gold Card.
Cardholders can earn 3x points at restaurants and on food delivery, 3x points at supermarkets, and 3x points on gas and transit. For all other purchases, cardholders earn 1x point for every dollar spent. Best of all, the earning potential is uncapped, meaning you can accrue as many points as you'd like. As a reminder, although this is an American Express card, cardholders will receive Navy Federal Rewards points.
To provide you with an example of the earning potential of this card, let's look at the following scenario:
Let's assume you spend $2,000 per year at restaurants, $6,000 annually on groceries, and $2,000 each year on gas and transit. This would equate to a total of $10,000 spent on the card's 3x bonus categories and would result in 30,000 points earned in a single year. And that's not counting all the non-bonus spending you would put on the card, which would increase your points balance even higher.
How to use rewards from the Navy Federal More Rewards card
Navy Federal Credit Union points can be redeemed for a set value of 1 cent each. Cardholders can redeem their points in numerous ways, including cash back, gift cards, airline tickets, hotels, rental cars, and more.
For the majority of cardholders, cash-back redemptions — which start at 5,000 points for a $50 credit to your Navy Federal savings account — are the simplest way to redeem rewards. Others may want to use points for travel purchases — just keep in mind that the Navy Federal Credit Union portal will require you to have the full amount of points to cover a travel purchase, as there are no partial points redemption options where you could use a combination of cash and points.
When you're ready to utilize your points, log in to your Navy Federal online banking account here or download the Navy Federal mobile app to see your rewards balance.
Navy Federal More Rewards American Express card benefits and features
The Navy Federal More Rewards American Express® Card won't overwhelm you with robust benefits like airport lounge access or hotel elite status, but it does feature several noteworthy perks.
Entertainment perks
Because the Navy Federal More Rewards American Express® Card is an American Express card, cardholders may receive early access to in-demand concerts, sporting events, and shows. This card also takes part in the Global Dining Program from American Express, which offers cardholders exclusive discounts at participating restaurants.
Discounted travel
You can score nice discounts on travel — including up to 30% off on certain hotels and up to 25% off on rental cars — when booking via Booking.com on the American Express travel website.
Travel and emergency assistance
If you're away from home and run into trouble, you'll have access to a travel and emergency assistance hotline which can help arrange things like medical and legal referrals, lost luggage assistance, or relaying urgent messages. The service itself is complimentary, but any third-party costs are the cardholder's responsibility.
Roadside assistance
You can relax knowing that you have 24/7 roadside assistance, which includes towing and transportation if your car breaks down while you're traveling, a replacement car while yours is being fixed, a replacement driver if you get sick and can't drive, and the ability to continue your trip or go home if your car is lost or can't be used.
Secondary car rental loss and damage insurance
Car rental loss and damage insurance coverage are issued, in excess of other insurance, against damage to or loss of a rental vehicle. Coverage applies when you use your Navy Federal More Rewards American Express® Card to pay for the rental car.
Purchase protection
When you pay for an eligible item with your Navy Federal More Rewards American Express® Card and it's damaged or stolen within 90 days of purchase, you could be eligible for reimbursement of up to $1,000 per claim and a total of $50,000 per cardholder account per 12-month period.
Extended warranty
Eligible items purchased with your card with your Navy Federal More Rewards American Express® Card with an original manufacturer's warranty of 12 months or less can receive extended warranty protection. This doubles the original warranty by up to a maximum of 12 months.
Return protection
If you try to return an eligible item you bought with your Navy Federal More Rewards American Express® Card within 90 days of purchase and the merchant won't take it back, you could get reimbursement of up to $300 per item (maximum $1,000 per year per account).
Price protection ('Best value guarantee')
Not many credit cards still offer price protection, so the Navy Federal More Rewards American Express® Card is unusual in this regard. If, within 30 days of buying an eligible item with your card, you see a print advertisement for the identical item at a lower price than you originally paid, you could be reimbursed for the price difference (up to $250 per item).
